Our Percentage Fundraiser is tomorrow (Wednesday, Oct. 19) and we need everyone to show up and purchase lunch and/or dinner. George Neslen and Cassie Ledford have offered to give us a percentage of the proceeds on this day at Creekside Oyster House and Grill on Skyland Drive, which they own and operate. Thank you, George and Cassie, for offering this for our club. Please see Katie McMillan if you would like to help at the event. All proceeds will go towards our Polio Plus donation. The event will take place from 11am until 10pm tomorrow, so come eat a great meal and support a great cause.

This week our speaker is Patsy Dowling Davis, Executive Director of Mountain Projects, Inc. She will be sharing the programs and services of their community action agency.

Happy Dollars this week will support Polio Plus.

Greeter this week is Vance Davidson.
The Turkey Trot planning committee will meet this Thursday immediately after our regular meeting. Please see Bob Carpenter if you would like to help plan the Turkey Trot.

The Spirit of the Smokies Car Show fundraiser is Saturday Oct. 29 from 10am until 3pm on Front Street in Dillsboro. Our website contains all the information you need -- click on this link: -- You'll find a downloadable entry form.
The Car Show Committee will meet at 11:30am this Thursday, before our regular meeting.  If you can help with the Car Show, please see Peggy Wike.  We are still looking for sponsors for this event, so please spread the word.

The District Foundation Banquet is Saturday Nov. 12. Please see the following information sent from District Governor Gary Dills:

This year's banquet celebrates the first 100 years of the Rotary Foundation, and what you and our charity are doing in our communities and worldwide. Go to DACdb, then to CALENDAR, scroll to 12 Nov 2016, register, and make your meal choices. The cost is $50 per person (cost of the food, set up and facility). We will begin with cash bar(s) reception at approximately 6PM, with festivities beginning at 6:30PM.  Dress is business casual. The deadline for registration is Wednesday, 9 November.

The Veterans Picnic is Saturday, Nov. 12 from 11:30 am to 1 pm.  Our club is providing potato chips and cookies for the picnic.  Please bring potato chips and cookies to our meetings over the next couple of weeks to support the Veteran Picnic.  Please see Lyn Lazar if you have any questions.

Yours in Rotary Service,

There is no noon meeting this Thursday.
Instead, our annual picnic is tomorrow at East Laporte Park.  This potluck event starts at 5pm (Thursday, Sept. 29) at the pavilion. East Laporte Park is approximately 3 miles past WCU (heading towards Tuckaseegee). The park is on the right side of the road next to the Caney Fork gas station.
Thanks to Scott Baker and Bobby Sullivan for providing great musical entertainment for us last week on short notice.
Thank you to Peggy Wike, Kenny Nicholson, Phil Haire, Mark Hinson, and Jim Montsinger for helping at our Mountain Heritage Day booth last Saturday.  We helped to spread the news about the good work of the Sylva Rotary Club. Thanks to Larry Hinton for providing the tent and tables.
International Walk to School Day is October 5 this year. We are partnering with the Jackson County School system to help with the Walk to School Day at Fairview Elementary School on Wednesday, October 5 from 6:30am until 7:45am. Club members will be stationed along the walking trail to help lead the children. Please let me know if you would like to help with this event. We need 8-10 Rotarians to help.
Our first New Members Luncheon was a success, last Tuesday at Ryan’s Steakhouse. Thank you to Phil Haire and Ron Rhodes for organizing the luncheon. Other members that joined us were Mark Hinson, Poly Colville, Todd Vinyard, Bud Boynton, Paul Lormand, and Charles Wolfe.
Our first fundraiser of the year will be a "percentage day" on October 19.  George Neslen and Cassie Ledford have offered to give us a percentage of the proceeds on this day at Creekside Restaurant, which they own and operate. Thank you, George and Cassie, for offering this for our club and thanks to Katie McMillan for organizing it. More information to come but please mark your calendars to come eat at Creekside Restaurant on October 19.
Yours in Rotary service,

Our Tooth Fairies from the Blue Ridge Dental Clinic stole the show! It was a great day to be a Rotarian. Enjoy the pictures!
